2020 not only marks the momentous occasion of 26 years of Fairtrade, but the beginning of an ambitious three year campaign to introduce a living income for all. She Deserves a living income, the new campaign, will highlight the things we might take for granted (including treats like a new dress or chocolate!) in a world where many farmers and workers can’t afford life’s essentials.
For two weeks each year thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to share the stories of the people who grow our food and make our clothing. We believe that knowledge is power and in promoting Fairtrade we are able to inform our customers on how they can make a difference through their purchases.

Making simples changes to the way you shop can make a real difference- purchasing Fairtrade products means that the workers and farmers involved in its production have fair pay, equality in the workplace, good working conditions and many other benefits.
This year, Fairtrade Fortnight shines a light on the people who make our clothes and in particular the women who have a vital role in the manufacturing of products that we consume on a daily basis. Working for a Fairtrade organisation permits its workers to a fair income, allowing the workers to lead dignified lives, a human right we all deserve.
The focus of Assisi is not the women alone but their communities too. This is reflected in the various projects undertaken. In keeping with its mission, Assisi Garments invests in the community by supporting various social projects, including a cancer hospital and an AIDS rehabilitation center in South India.
“People Tree helped us to innovate and champion best business practices. Without this strong partnership, we could not achieve this. We’re supporting many families who earn their living making organic cotton clothing at Assisi Garments.”

Preparation 5 MINS
Cooking 5 MINS
Serving 50 pieces
397g can condensed milk
400g Fairtrade milk chocolate, roughly chopped
25g butter
100g Tate & Lyle Fairtrade Dark Muscovado Sugar
2 x 40g Fairtrade crunchy chocolate bars
1.Lightly butter a 20cm square baking tin, line with baking parchment and set to one side. Spoon the condensed milk into a large, heavy based saucepan and add the milk chocolate, butter and sugar.
2.Gently heat, stirring all the time until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy. This should take around 5 minutes.
3.Carefully tip the hot mixture into the prepared tin and level off the top. Allow to cool for 30 minutes. Place the crunchy chocolate bars in a food bag and gently bash with a rolling pin into nice chunks. Scatter over the fudge and gently press down so that it stays in place. Chill for an hour or overnight until firm. Cut into 2cm x 4 cm pieces and serve.
